Your New Patient Appointment Explained
Your first appointment with a chiropractor will start with a discussion about your problem or condition. They will ask about your medical history, diet and lifestyle, before carrying out a thorough physical examination.
The Examination Includes:
A Full Structural Exam (3-D Spinal Analysis, Digital Structural Photos)
Digital Structural X-rays (when clinically indicated).
Chiropractic Testing of spinal Joints.
Orthopaedic and Neurological Testing
Corrective Chiropractic will combine information gained from your questionnaire, previous history, examination findings and then meet you again to discuss these findings to create a treatment plan for you. The plan will highlight what we aim to achieve in partnership with you and targets will be set. The number of sessions you will need and how often you have them will depend on your particular condition. You may have many questions so be sure to ask if you’re unsure about anything.
Regular progress exams will be undertaken to monitor your improvements. This will allow you to not only feel the benefits but visually see the changes in your spinal alignment, mechanics and overall health.
Your Treatment
Once you fully understand the report of findings you will be ready to start with your treatment. A typical treatment will involve a series of Chiropractic Adjustments, a Structural Exercise Program and Ergonomic Advice.
CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
Your chiropractor will usually treat you while you lie down in various positions. Your Chiropractor will use comfortable hands-on adjustment techniques on your spine. These adjustments will help improve the motion in your spine and improve your symptoms. In combination the adjustments will help guide your spine back towards a neutral position.
STRUCTURAL EXERCISE PROGRAM
To optimise your results and create a strong and stable spine you will be given a Structural Exercise Program based on specific measurements from your initial exam. The program in combination with your adjustment will not only optimise your spine but will also serve as a valuable tool in maintaining your results.
ERGONOMIC ADVICE
A key aspect of achieving optimal results is improving what happens between your appointments. Based on your job, hobbies and general lifestyle your chiropractor will give you advice for your specific needs. This may include sleep position, workstation assessments or the best way to do a certain exercise.
